Woohoo. I’m Single. Oh crap, wait, I’m kinda fat….

Can you remember back in the day (tilt head up and to the left) the new relationship, the time freedom to enjoy each other’s company, preparing meals together, laughing, joking, gyming each week and staying fit and healthy?

Enter stage left – The Routine. Then it Stops. Fast. And You Get … Fat.

Perhaps it’s the kids, maybe a new focus or direction. It could be work; it could be that relationships change and there’s little appreciation so you can’t be arsed, or it could be sex is so boring that you can’t be bothered getting naked. And so over time, out comes the beer and custard slices. Who knows!?

Whatever way you look at it – you’re newly single; a brand new fresh start but a little teeny-tiny bit fat and that online profile pic, well that could do with some photo shopping!

Fortunately, on a focussed eating and exercise program you’ll tend to lose fat off your face first so you can take that photo, upload it, date your ass off and before you get your kit off you’ll have time to sort out the belly.

Here are some top tips to get you on your way.

  • Don’t increase your alcohol content. Save the alcohol for dating (and a couple of benders with your mates)
  • Good (and Bad) habits take 21 days to form. Stick with moderate powerwalking for 45 minutes, 5 x a week that will metabolize fat for energy.
  • Resistance train. For every kilo of muscle that you add, you burn 4 kilos of fat per year…without doing anything. Muscle aids in fat loss.
  • Eat 5 to 6 small meals per day. Never skip meals.
  • Increase lean protein - Chicken, Steak, Turkey, Fish
  • Add in zero carb protein bars for your 10am and 3pm snacks.
  • Add in 1 complete meal replacement Protein drink for either Breakfast or lunch.
  • Google low GI dinners – and get cooking.
