Your Summer bucket list
School's out and a long - and hopefully hot - summer awaits us! At my house we are looking forward to lots of not-very-much but for kids there comes a point where relaxing starts to equal boring. That's when you need a summer bucket list to spark a bit of imagination - even if it's just one focused activity each day.
- Spend a whole afternoon poolside - if you can't find a friend the Auckland Council pools are great for kids
- Eat fish and chips on a beach
- Stay in your pyjamas all day
- Eat dessert for dinner
- Go bush
- Build a sand castle
- Make spiders (fizzy drink with ice cream)
- Teach your kids to cook on the BBQ
- Sleep in a tent, or make an indoor hut and sleep in that
- Go a whole day without technology (parents too!)
- Everyone in the family: read a book
- As a family, start up a "pay it forward" movement (3 good deeds)
- Climb a volcano
- Help your kids make cookies or sea-shell necklaces and let them set up a roadside stall (how kiwi is that?!)
- Watch a sunset
- Kids make breakfast, adults sleep in
- Drive to nowhere and back again (there should be at least one pub or ice cream shop in the middle of nowhere)
- Ask the kids to organise a backyard concert (requiring all-day long rehearsals)
- Walk the length of a beach after dinner
- Dine al fresco and repeat that one often
What's on your bucket list this summer?
